SUPRA BOATS PRO WAKE TOUR STARTS 2019 WITH OPEN QUALIFIER IN KATY, TEXAS

MAY 19, 2019

KATY, Texas (May 17, 2019)— The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour kicks off the 2019 season at August Lakes in Katy, Texas, with an Open Qualifier, which secured competitors for Saturday’s Main Event in the Wakeboard and Wakesurf event.

A stout field of 20 riders took to the water in Wakeboard, on a cozy, warm day, with Shota Tezuka earning the top score of the day en route to winning the second Qualifying Heat. Mizuki Takahashi and Parker Siegele also won Qualifying Heats. Kai Ditsch and young gun Sam Brown picked up wins in a pair of Last Chance Qualifiers to earn the final two spots for the main event on Saturday.

In Wakesurf, John Akerman won the second Qualifying Heat, with the highest score of the day, while Jarrett Scribner was victorious in the first heat. Aaron Witherrell took the win in the Last Chance Qualifier.

Top notes from the day:

  • Sam Brown is the youngest competitor at 16 years-old, while Danny Thollander is the oldest at 31-years-old.
  • Bec Gange is the only woman to compete in the Open Qualifier this year and is the only woman to land a “Whirly 5.” Gange won Moomba earlier this year.
  • Lorenzo Soprani is only the second Italian to compete on the Pro Tour.
  • The Ditsch brothers will be the first Argentinians to compete with the PWT, as well as the first set of twins.
  • There will be 10 Australians competing this year on the Pro Wake Tour.
  • Mizuki Takahashi and Shota Tezuka are the only two Japanese men to compete on the Tour. Miku Asai competed in 2012 when there was a women’s division on tour.

All the action continues on Saturday at August Lakes with both Pro Wakeboard and Pro Wakesurf in competition. The schedule of events will be moved up by an hour, with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m., in an effort to complete the full program with possible predicted inclement weather later in the afternoon.

At the gate on Saturday, tickets are $10/adults and $5/children. Kids 5-under are admitted free of charge. Military (with ID) + 3 people are FREE.
